Opening Week

I am feeling a little dour after the ACC Championship, so maybe summer ball can pick me up. This will be my first post in regard to assignments. This can be tricky before the seasons begin because online rosters can be empty, missing players, or have players that never end up on the team. I usually try to wait until the season begins and actually see some stats before saying a player is playing in a league. Not this season. Just know that until we see some stats, these assignments are “supposed” to be playing.

NORTHWOODS LEAGUE

The Northwoods League opens play on Monday, May 27th. They stream all their games online. You just need to sign-up for free. They also put two games a day on ESPN+.  Here are the assignments I could find.

Korbyn Dickerson will be returning to the Madison Mallards this summer. Last summer he played 18 games with the Mallards. He hit .279 and played flawless defense. He isn’t showing on the roster yet, but both KD and Madison’s social media account confirmed he will be on the team. Of course, with the Cards season not “officially” over, I don’t expect him to arrive this first week.

Lucas Moore this fleet-footed outfielder will be joining the Waterloo Bucks. We’ve seen glimpses of what he brings during his freshman campaign. He should gain valuable game experience over the summer, as they play 60+ games. Last summer, Michael Lippe played for the Bucks and led the league in walks. I would like to challenge Lucas to lead the league in stolen bases.

Jake Munroe is on the roster for Madison. You might ask, “who?” and that is okay. The Madison Mallards twitter account said the same when asked about him. Jake is a JuCo transfer third baseman from John A Logan who committed to UofL last September and continued to destroy baseballs this past season. I’m not sure if he is actually playing, so this may be the last I bring him up this summer. UPDATE: Jake IS playing with Madison.

UPDATE: Will Vierling is also slated to join Madison. The Mallards twitter account posted the announcement in April, but the roster hasn’t been updated. He looked good prior to injury his freshman year. I look forward to seeing a healthy Vierling over the course of 60 games this summer.

Prospect League

The Prospect League begins play on Tuesday, May 28th.

Redshirt freshman Morgan Davis and Jake Murphy are slated to pitch for the Danville Dans according to the team’s online roster.
